Our 5 Favourite Bars in Stellenbosch
Stellenbosch offers so many places to quaff and quench the thirst. Every wine or whiskey bar has its signature style adorned in a restored or remodeled building. Old world meets new world in wine and architecture and we love the sheer variety and quality of local brews on tap. Some of our favourite bars in Stellenbosch are Bartinney Wine & Champagne Bar, De Warenmarkt Bar, Lanzerac Esquire Whiskey & Cigar Bar, the Big Easy and Brampton.
Bartinney Wine & Champagne Bar
The name of this Wine and Champagne bar alone hints at its Old School inspiration of paneled walls, vintage chairs and vine chandeliers. This is why we love Bartinney Wine & Champagne Bar – it’s a fitting setting to quaff good wine, beer and bubbly; even better accompanied by a freshly selected cheese board or meat platter.
De Warenmarkt Bar
Foodie heaven is right in the hub of Stellenbosch – and everything artisanal spills from the stalls at De Warenmarkt Bar. The choices are hard on a hungry stomach – with the smell of freshly risen waffles dissenting against just-made pancakes. It’s a place we think is perfect for market and food lovers and a wholesome way to feed soul and stomach. The wine bar is a winner with local brews, wines and ciders available and for caffeine-cravers, there is a Deluxe Coffeeworks serving up espressos and flat whites in short order.
Lanzerac Esquire Whiskey & Cigar Bar
There’s always an occasion that calls for a cigar and whiskey. And with it, the right venue to settle down into deep leather couches, glass in hand, music in the background and conversations that rise and settle. We love the easy ambience of this bar, which has all the hallmarks of luxury. Best yet, it overlooks the Lady Ann Courtyard with its outdoor seating area and mountain views.
The Big Easy
The Big Easy is a place of stature and history. Architecturally it’s a narrative of the Cape Dutch, Georgian and Victorian eras, with a 21st century revamp to house Ernie Els’s new signature wine bar and restaurant. Wine lovers can rejoice at the selection of 170 wines that can be quaffed at leisure. Chef JP Lopion’s cuisine is as top class as every other element of The Big Easy experience – and why we love it.
Whimsical and fun, Brampton is a little wine bar in Church Street Stellenbosch which has a concise wine menu of 3 whites, 3 reds and a Rosé. Customers can create their own entertainment using the chalkboards to play. We like their light menus to balance out the boozy buzz.
